DIY Residential Wind Turbine - Green Power For Your Home

!±8± DIY Residential Wind Turbine - Green Power For Your Home

In residential wind turbines, not all residences can have wind turbine since it depends on the area or place where you live in. If ever you live in an area with lots of high buildings where you cannot have a wind axis, then it is not advisable for you to have this wind turbine since in here, you need a flow of the wind.

The modern diy wind power turbine is mounted on the tower where it can take advantage of an available wind source and this is commonly constructed of fan blades affixed to a hub where the gear drive spins a shaft that turns an electrical producing generator. The generator however, outputs electrical energy which converted to be a compatible to home.

Usually home in a remote area or area where there are less high buildings were powered both by the wind turbine and connected to local power grid. That is when the wind speed increase; the wind turbine power output is fed to the home power system.

And if ever there is a high wind, the power output is fed and if it exceed for example, then the power requirements for your home is fed back into the grid and is purchased from you by you're the power company. Then you can save in your electric bills and can promote a green environmental friendly where in pollution is nowhere to be found in your home environment.

As the homeowner, you can do it yourself if you set your mind to it. You can do some research through the internet and you can also buy some books regarding diy wind power and turbines for residences. If not, you can buy a residence wind turbine kit but you need to be careful since there are different levels of diy.

To be sure and want your resident wind powered turbine more durable, then you have to search the required parts needed and components, purchase them and interconnect them. You can even have your resident wind turbine with the use of scrap materials if you want it in cheaper cost.

When you purchase a residential wind turbine kit, you have to choose which kits you like to purchase since some residential windmill turbine include in their package the 3 blades, generator, and watt pure sine wave inverter wherein tower or pole is not included.

One thing more, the components of residential wind turbine system are available in different sizes and capacities. However, the diy residential wind turbine has essential comfortable with the simple electrical wiring and basic construction.

All you have to know is that when talking about the blades, the fewer and shorter blade is advisable for a place or area where wind is lots and never use larger propeller diameter since this has less speed, this is good in slow speed wind since it has more power.

Before planning to purchase diy residential windmill, you must know the basics of wind power and the designs as well as the function of each part. You also need to know the quality of wind at your area and the interconnection with your local power utility. Not only that, one must know the compliance with the zoning laws.

Doing a diy wind generator for your residence is a great pride and achievement and for sure by reading and doing it in step by step process, you will be successful. If you have some friends who want to help you, then let them help.

Do it slowly but surely. Anyway, it's not a contest though but an achievement where you and your family will be benefited.

3 Common Causes of House Fires

!±8± 3 Common Causes of House Fires

3 Tips to look for a potential fire hazard in your home.

Today many lives are lost and countless millions spent, because people are unaware of what to look for in their electrical system to determine what a potential hazard might be. In this short report three of the most common issues that cause electrical fires in the world today will be covered.

1) knob and tube wiring.
Now knob & tube wiring is some of the oldest wiring in buildings today. Many thousands of older homes still have the original wiring installed spidering through the walls. Because knob & Tube wiring is the oldest it has been given a bad name. Obviously,it's had the most time to have problems with it, most of the time these problems are from human hands not the actual wire itself.

When the system was designed and installed no one could have possible realized how many different modern electrical appliances could have been thought up. Because of modern technology, we find that older homes just simply do not have enough plugs in each room. People who do not understand how electrical works or how to work with knob and tube wiring will splice into these wires and add more receptacles. This is against the NEC (national electric code). The reason for this is because the system was designed for certain load. The more plugs that are added to that circuit the more possibilities there are to increase the load on that circuit. Your home may have a circuit that has been designed to only have a few amps on it, the more places you have to add more things onto the circuit (plugs) the better chance you have of overloading that circuit.

2) bad splices.
Bad splices are probably one of the most common reasons electrical fires happen. With a bad splice the wires will slight slightly separate. When they separate they created a arching and sparking effect which then in turn creates heat. If there's enough draw and enough of an arc that happens on this wire. There is a real potential for fire to start. This is why it's absolutely critical that you hire a contractor who understands electrical system and understands how to properly make splices in any type of wire.

3) Federal Pacific panels.
It is well documented that Federal Pacific panels are a potential fire hazard. This is because the connection points for the breakers were they tie onto the bussbar have a tendency to become loose. Again, just as a loose splice will create arching and sparking this to is will create heat. Should enough heat be created from the arching and sparking a fire is a possibility.

Another well documented fault of a federal Pacific breaker is the fact that they're notorious for not tripping when they're supposed to. Generally speaking, if a circuit is drawing more than its rated for the breaker should trip. And turn the power off to that circuit. However Pacific panel breakers that unfortunately does not always happen. It's very possible to overload a circuit that protected by a federal Pacific breaker and cause damage to the wire or other components. This can mean melting of the wire, fires, or even melting of the breaker itself.

The purpose of this article was not to scare anyone but to draw attention to very common problem. It's very difficult to determine who is a legitimate electrician, and who may just be a Saturday afternoon worker. The juju list helps home owners get matched to contractors that can service their particular needs.

Choosing a Electrician

!±8± Choosing a Electrician

Picking a good electrician should be easy. Sadly though, there are a lot of cowboys out there that will happily take your hard earned money and do a poor or even dangerous job in return. You need to make sure you pick an Auckland electrician that will do a good job, for a good price, when they say they will do it, and in a reasonable time frame - in other words, a 'Professional'.

One of the easiest ways to make sure you do get a professional is to pick someone who is a member of a national trade association - their ad will state they are a Member, or Registered. Talk to family and friends, and find out who they've used and if they'd have them back again. Let your fingers do the walking - check the yellow pages and the internet. Call the national association and find out who is in your area. Pick an electrician with good references, someone with skills and trustworthiness.

Before you ring, do your best to figure out what needs doing - 'the light doesn't go' could be anything from a blown fuse to a complete rewiring, and the materials, cost and time to do the jobs is very different! The more detail you can give the electrician, the better they can do their job both before and after they arrive.

Depending on what the issue is, a good Auckland electrician will have some suggestions on things to do before they arrive, to minimize the potential damage. If it's an emergency that needs immediate attention, be sure to say. For a major job with multiple parts, such as renovations, it may help you to make a list of must have's, should have's, and would-like-to have's, and know how much money you have to spend.

Minor jobs and emergencies will probably be fixed in one visit. Bigger and more expensive jobs will probably require an initial visit to get a good idea of the work to be done, an estimate or quote will be prepared for you, then there will be one or more visits afterwards to do the work. If the work is to be done straight away, make sure you ask for a quick estimate before the electrician begins, especially if you have a limited budget. If the job costs more than you have available, ask the electrician if it is possible to do it a cheaper way, or if you can pay by a payment plan.

Once the work is done, the electrician should tidy up after themselves and remove all debris from the job. They may ask for payment immediately, or send an invoice. Either way, make sure you pay as soon as you can - remember, that nice electrician also has bills to pay and mouths to feed.

Sinewave Inverter Basics

!±8± Sinewave Inverter Basics

Electrical devices that are designed to reproduce and to further enhance the quality of electricity coming from the main power lines are classified as a Sinewave Inverter. Technically, inverters transform direct current (DC) from batteries to alternating current (AC) to power conventional electrical devices.

The resulting AC can be made available depending on the required frequency and voltage using suitable transformers, control and switching circuits. Inverters are actually high-power electronic oscillator. It performs the reverse function of converters or rectifiers. Three kinds of waveforms are produced by inverters; the square wave being the simplest and are now obsolete; the other two being the modified sine wave and true sine wave. Sine wave is of better choice as compared to the square wave although it is not that easy to generate. The sine wave has an advantage of having soft temporal rise in amplitude or voltage and the absence or minimal presence of harmonic oscillations. These harmonic oscillations, if present, can cause undesirable forces that can add noise or interference to the equipment.

Considering the modified or quasi-sine inverters, it is known as the second generation of power inverter. Modified sine wave inverters are a compromise between the low harmonics of the waveform quality and the high cost of the true sine wave inverter. Modified sine wave inverters can run stereos, TV's, induction motors, computers, microwaves, etc. It has harmonics that is low enough not to cause problems with the common household appliances. Though useful, it has its disadvantage; its peak voltage varies in relation to the battery voltage. In effect, appliances or equipments with compromised or no power supply regulation may erratically behave when the supply or battery voltage fluctuates. It is much cheaper as compared to the other type.

Pertaining to the true or pure sine wave inverters, it is the modern form of inverter. It is called pure because it enables cleaner running system. The design and construction of this inverter totally eliminated the harmonics and almost all appliances operate correctly with this type of inverter. Moreover, utilizing this kind of device reduces noise in the TV sets, audio amplifiers etc.

Comparing the waveform it produces to the waveform that the power lines deliver, it delivers the same, if not better than the latter. Because of the duty and quality of waveform it produces, it is comparatively more expensive than its modified counter part. Pure sine wave inverter is the choice for utilization of most sensitive electronic devices.

In terms of the type of equipment available on the market, the potential purchaser is faced with the paradox of choice - the more devices and brands there are, the more difficult it is to make an informed decision based on the required criteria.
